Possible renal stone: Intermittent pain in the side, radiating to the back, and associated with blood in the urine, can be due to a urinary tract stone. This can be very uncomfortable. There are certainly other possible causes, but an x-ray to look for a stone would be worthwhile. A CT scan without contrast is the best way to find a small stone.
