A member asked:

Got a blood test and result came back saying fibrinogen: <0.5 does that mean i have dysfibrinogenemia or is it dehydration? mum has dysfibrinogenemia

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Altho I don't know: the units used to measure your fibrinogen, I can say in general that it isn't diagnosed by the fibrinogen level itself but rather by fibrinogen's ability to clot or prevent clotting in a normal time period. Technology now allows us to analyze the structure of fibrinogen & even the genes that cause the condition. Personal history & family history are also important in making the diagnosis.
