Trigger finger: Pain at the metacarpal phalangeal joints is usually due to an overuse syndrome. It can be treated with rest, ice and heat, and corticosteroid injections by a medical provider. Often avoiding what hurts and use of that joint for 2-6 weeks will clear up the problem. If the joint is swollen, red, and with worsening pain infection and conditions like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis should be ruled out.
