Tachycardia: Infant heart rates over 120 are common, but 164 beats per minute is very fast and,if accurate, warrants prompt evaluation by your pediatrician. This rapid rate could be a primary cardiac arrhythmia or be secondary to an illness. Evaluation should be done in the hospital emergency room where EKG as well as other testing can be done promptly.
