Depends: An ESR is determined by both age and sex. Females and older patients can have higher baseline values as a normal compared to men and the young. For males, the normal sed rate is calculated by taking the age and dividing by two ----anything above that amount is elevated. For females, the sed rate is calculated by adding 10 to the age then divide by 2. I hope that answers your question.
