Not always: Accessory placental lobes are sometimes easy to see on ultrasound and sometimes not. It depends on the weight of the patient, the gestational age, the skill of the sonographer, the position of the placenta and the baby, the quality of the machine and many other factors. If concerned have your doctor do an ultrasound specifically looking for this.
