Trichomonas: If you mean other ways than sex, the answer is no, or only very rarely. When trichomonas shows up in someone at low risk for STD, it's usually because either the infected person or his partner had been infected for a long time, often many years. New trich in a monogamous couple usually does not mean either partner has been unfaithful. False pos can occur, but rare with modern DNA tests for trich.

Other ways besides: having sexual intercourse without a condom?? It's unlikely but possible if there's direct contact of the penis with vaginal secretions of an infected partner. False negatives are common, especially in men. False positives? Unlikely. If you or your partner have symptoms or if she's known to have Trich, both of you should be treated concurrently. Dr. Anne
