Having rib area pain after cold symptoms, now just cough. it's right side under arm pit rib area pain, hurts to lay down or sit up straight up.

Pain from coughing: Hi michelle,it is likely that you have pulled one of the small(but important)muscles in between your ribs(intercostal muscles). This can happen after a coughing illness. It goes away with time but it takes awhile as that muscle rarely gets a rest(used for breathing). Other concerns would be inflammation of the lining of the lungs(pleuritis). Ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen) can be helpful for pain.
