Pain from coughing: Hi michelle,it is likely that you have pulled one of the small(but important)muscles in between your ribs(intercostal muscles). This can happen after a coughing illness. It goes away with time but it takes awhile as that muscle rarely gets a rest(used for breathing). Other concerns would be inflammation of the lining of the lungs(pleuritis). Ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen) can be helpful for pain.
