3mm more: The goal of a distal clavicle excision (shaving collar bone) is to remove approximately 1cm of bone. If too little bone is removed, pain may persist. If excess bone is removed, the collar bone joint (AC joint) can become unstable. In your situation, if you had 7mm of bone removed from your distal clavicle, approximately 3mm more can be removed without causing complications.
