I've had a lump on the tip of my tongue for about 8 weeks now, i'm awaiting a maxillofacial appointment, it now has a red centre to it. is it cancer?

Not cancer: malignancies of the tongue only occur with relationship to the anterior 2/3 of the tongue on the lateral side. All other processes such as inflamed taste buds are in the central portion. Many infections of the tongue are also found in the anterior 2/3 central region of the tongue.
