Healing: A torn meniscus causes pain and inflammation in the knee. Continued exertion will make it worse until the acute injury/tear associated with the injury has a chance to heal. Healing takes 6-8 weeks before it's complete, assuming there is no re-injury during that time.

Relative rest.: Rest will not fix a meniscus tear. It may keep it from getting worse, but can also stiffen and weaken the knee.
