Reduce resistance: To reduce the temptation to treat yourself (or for other household members to treat themselves) for new problems without a doctor's advice. Self treatment for problems that don't need antibiotics at all, or with the wrong antibiotic, is another reason for the worldwide epidemic of antibiotic resistance bacteria -- which I mentioned in replying to your previous question.
