Tubal ligation: There is tubal ligation, in which the fallopian tubes are cut, closed, clipped, or otherwise made so that they are not open any more. A number of different techniques can be used for this. The other type is hysterectomy, in which the uterus is removed. Hysterectomy is typically reserved for diseases or abnormalities that make it medically necessary to remove the uterus, rather than preference.
