A member asked:

What does it mean when you have pus coming from under your finger nail?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pus under fingernail: Usually pus under or around the fingernail means there is a bacterial infection of the skin or maybe an abscess has already formed. This abscess needs to be drained as soon as possible and antibiotics are needed to fight the infection. The pus needs to be cultured to determine exactly which bacteria is causing the infection, but antibiotic treatment needs to be started before the culture result.
