Is it possible to have lupus but come back negative on the test or is the test the only way to tell?

Yes: the test may be negative in early LUPUS and may give false POSITIVES as well... No test is 100% "foolproof" ANTI-NUCLEAR antibodies and if positive a certain TYPE of anti-nuclear response may be helpful! Hope this info helps! Dr Z
