A member asked:

Is it possible/acceptable to tell your doctor you suspect you have a certain disease/illness that you want to be tested for?

Telling your doctor: Yes. I think it is OK for patients to research their symptoms and to ask their doctor if they can be tested for a certain disease. Doctors also appreciate it when you are willing to stay open minded about other possibilities, and also detail your symptoms and let them formulate their own ideas and plans to diagnose you. It can be hard if the patient has already made up their mind.
