Does ativan (lorazepam) help OCD and intrusive thoughts? Does it cause weight gain? What would you recommend.

Yes but not longterm: Ativan, (lorazepam) a benzodiazepine, can help with anxiety related behaviors and thoughts. However, it is not an ideal choice for long term use because one can develop tolerance for this group of drugs. Behavioral therapy is foundational for you to be able to het better with or without meds. Exercise can also be very helpful. Med choice may include an ssri.
