Maybe strep, viral..: Throat symptoms may be due to strep throat, viruses, allergies, etc... If symptoms only last 1-2 days, it was more likely allergies, irritation, or a mild cold. Doctors have rapid 5-minute tests for strep, so a primary care doctor can diagnose strep and start antibiotics within the first few days of symptoms. The same germs can infect the throat, regardless of whether a person has tonsils or not.
