Need more info: There are several causes for this and it is very hard to give you an accurate answer without an examination. I think it is imperative that you take your mom to her family physician very soon. At her age of 70 her immune system may not be up to par and things may get worse. Don't hesitate.

Need: A biopsy of the sore. Possibility of basal cell or rodent skin cancer is high
