Usually, yes: Touching herpes sores (by toilet wiping or any other reason) usually is quite painful. However, most such pain is due to things other than herpes, such as a yeast infection. And some herpes outbreaks cause no symptoms at all. If you think you might have genital herpes or were exposed, see your doctor ASAP for exam and testing. The sooner the better, for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
