Can kidney infection occurs without bladder infection? and if there is not pus cells but only rbc in urinalysis then it is kidney infection or not?

In general: Kidney infections originate in the bladder (The exception is bacterial sepsis ..bacteria in blood stream infect the kidney directly ..this is quite serious) Most kidney infections produce WBC's in urine along with "casts" (wbc/rbc containing tubule originating microscopic bodies) RBC's ALONE usually indicate damage (eg kidney stones) to the urinary system anywhere from kidneys to the bladder! Z
