STRESS FRACTURE: A sudden pain, on the top, while walking makes me think of a stress fracture to a metatarsal. New-onset stress fractures may not be seen on x-ray. It may take two weeks or more to be visualized on x-ray. Using a hard-soled surgery shoe is my initial treatment. Sincerely, Dr. Latva

Over stressed...: I would have the foot x-rayed to make sure that there is not a fracture in a metatarsal. It might be a stress fracture, but the sudden onset could mean an out and out break in the bone.
