A member asked:

Sti tests negative. what else could cause pid? would amoxicillin, 1g azithromycin and metronidazole be effective?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Any bacteria will do: It doesn't have to be a sexually transmitted bacteria to cause PID as any bacteria that is not indigenous to the vagina that migrates into the Fallopian tubes can cause a Salpingitis (Tubal infection) aka PID. This most often occurs during intercourse, but even tuberculosis can infect the Fallopian tubes and cause PID. Once the organism is cultured the correct antibiotic(s) can be given.
