I've got a small left sphenoid sinus mucus retention cyst measuring 1x1.5x1.6 cm. i have just gotten my mri results. likely they'll operate?

Unlikely: Small mucus retention cysts are common findings in sinuses imaging, unless it obstructs sinus drainage or cause recurrent sinusitis, rare, it is just observed, a coincidental finding. At any rate the doctor who ordered the MRI, for whatever reason can explain, if you do have other sinus problems, see an ENT specialist, good luck
