Branch out...: This could be a lot of things... Generally I advise: If it hurts, bleeds or grows and has been present more than a few weeks, then have it professionally evaluated. It sounds like it is not changing or bothering you physically. So IF you want more info, reach out to your physician or an ENT.

Black spot: May simply be a pigmented area. See a Specialist, either an Oral Surgeon or an ENT if your dental and medical GP's are stumped. Probably nothing to be concerned about, but excisional biopsy may be in order.
