A member asked:

I have a sore throat, cough that hurts my chest. and i seen one yellow spot on my right tonsil. no fever that ive noticed. could it be strep?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hard to guess: Throat pain can be from strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees a doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to see about antibiotics). Lots of coughing makes it less likely to be strep throat. Doctor can evaluate.
