A member asked:

Can you die from respiratory deemed failure if you are on a trach breathing machine?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Sure: A person can die of respiratory failure, regardless of whether or not she is using mechanical ventilation. That means mechanical ventilation has no guarantee against getting respiratory failure, if she doesn't already have respiratory failure as one of the original reasons for needed mechanical ventilation.
