Small bleed in skin: After the catheter is taken out of the vein a little blood will leak out of the puncture hole. That's why pressure is put over the site for a minute. There isn't any problem.

Several reasons: Having an IV in a vein can cause not only irritation of that vein, but any associated bruising or trauma with IV insertion can affect other local tissues as well. Most times the tenderness from an IV will dissipate over a week. If it takes longer then it is worthwhile to have an evaluation by a health care professional to rule out continued vein irritation or other associated injury.
