Pelvic exam: A pelvic exam will consist of both an external (feeling outside the genitals) and an internal (feeling inside the vagina) exam. The internal exam will be with both the doctors fingers and a speculum (an instrument to better visualize your cervix). Your doctor should be able to tell you what he or she is doing with each step of the exam. Try to relax throughout the exam.
