A member asked:

11 weeks pregnant and my husband has a skin rash from penicillin (antibiotics) is this contagious and/or pose any risk to the fetus?

It's his rash: The rash from penicillin won't affect you at all. What it represents is HIS body's reaction to penicillin and in no way is of any risk to you. He should call the doc who prescribed the penicillin so it can be switched out or stopped entirely. Rashes can get worse - so that's the potential danger. Good luck with your baby!!

No worries: This skin rash could, I suppose, be caused by yeast, and could, therefore, be contagious, but I doubt this. Most penicillin rashes are just a mild allergic reaction, and are not contagious or transmissible in any way. Good luck!
