Potentially : Ideally, young patients will respond to more conservative measures to control pain and improve function, such as physical therapy for example. But yes, steroids are another option. They can be given orally, by superficial injection, or by injection deeper onto the spine. Side affects can include immunosuppression, osteoporosis, avascular necrosis among other things. Discuss with your doctor.
