Ongoing knee pain: After 3-4 months, it's a good idea to see a doctor about the pain. The doctor will do an exam and make some recommendations for you. You may need a brace, or possibly some physical therapy to strengthen the muscles that support the knee and align the kneecap in the right place. If you are athletic, see a sports medicine specialist to help you get back to your sport quickly and safely.
