A member asked:

What are the chances of getting hiv through one time unprotected vaginal sex?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Low but possible: The overall rate for an HIV positive women transmitting the infection to a male tis 0.04% or 4/100. If other STDs are involved the rate is increased further. If you are concerned, testing should be started. If your partner is definitely HIV positive, testing and potential medications may need to be started. Obviously, the concern in the future will be decreased if you use condoms.
