A member asked:

Had the leep procedure for cin3 i wasn't told what type of hpv i carry. what tests need to be done to determine type? also how do prevent spreading?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

CIN 3 and HPV: High risk HPV is associated with CIN 3. The type can be identified on a follow up pap test with HPV. Current guidelines only test for HPV with an ASCUS pap result in women under 30 years of age. This probably is why you did not have an HPV result. Prevention of spread of HPV is by the use of condoms. The HPV immunization is also used to prevent the spread, but is used in the age group from 9-26.
