A member asked:

How long after a miscarriage occurs can an ultrasound detect if it happened?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: If the bleeding stops and it is an early miscarriage the uterus quickly returns to normal. An advanced gestational age can take six to eight weeks for the uterus to return to normal size and not show changes on ultrasound.. If bleeding persists an ultrasound should determine if there are retained products or subinvolution (when the uterus does not return to normal size).
