Burnt thumb: I suspect that the nerve endings are causing your symptoms - as your thumb responds to the thermal insult. - it is likely that it will swell - and put pressure on the skin nerves causing the sensation. I would try to keep the hand elevated and cool compresses - which may help. A good OTC anti inflammatory - aspirin or advil (ibuprofen) may help.
