Painful skin lesion: Moles are properly called melanocytic nevi. Although not uncommonly itchy, they don't usually hurt unless repeatedly irritated by clothing. There are other types of skin lesion that can be painful. Changing moles should be checked by a doctor.

Skin lesion: You need to have this "mole" evaluated in person by a physician. Any lesion that is as painful as you describe requires an in person evaluation.
