A member asked:

In addition, if there is still swelling in my tonsils after completing 7d amoxicillin for strep, is that to be a concern?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Treatment for Strep: The standard treatment for strep throat is 10 days of amoxicillin in order to decrease risk of rheumatic disease. That being said, it's not unusual for the tonsils to remain swollen for several weeks after treatment. If they are getting larger or are still painful, there may be another cause, such as infectious mononucleosis.
