Please see answer: Diarrhea from Metformin will usually go away in several weeks but can persist in about 5% of patients. Switching to extended release Metformin ER helps to resolve the issue for some. Imodium (loperamide) AD is effective for many patients to control the diarrhea. Taking Metformin with whole grain, high fiber Kashi breakfast cereals can be very helpful for some patients with Metformin diarrhea.
