Mirtazapine: use can lead to weight gain primarily though its action as an antidepressant. many people with depression lose their appetite. When the depression clears the appetite returns. Also people tend to sleep better. Those who gain weight on Remeron (mirtazapine) say the same thing about not changing their diet. There may be something to this. But increased exercise and dietary adjustment seems to solve the problem

Weight gain s/e?: Unfortunately, weight gain is a common side effect of mirtazapine. Some prescribe it to enhance appetite in those patients who eat little because of depression.
