It is a form of Radi: Cobalt-60 was the first form of radiotherapy developed and used successfully to treat cancer. However it has now been mostly replaced by more modern and safer radiotherapy machines. So it in now only used in the poor countries because of lower costs of cobalt machines than the modern linac -machines.

Still used: In addition to the historic nature of cobalt machines that basically had a shudder window that opened to radiate patients and closed to shut it off, it is currently used in a couple of other modern machines being manufactured. Gamma knife is a machine that only treats the brain and has a couple hundred pieces of cobalt that have to exchanged routinely. Another MRI based cobalt machine is made too.
