Finger compression: Eye drops drain in through the tear duct and get into the nasal passages and throat, and can also be absorbed into the bloodstream. By using your finger to compress the tear duct, this minimizes the amount of the eyedrop that gets into the throat. This is done by using a single finger and compressing the area just below the nasal edge of your lower eyelid, for 3 minutes after placing the eyedrop.
