What is the difference between a counseling & clinical psychologist? i know counseling psychologists being the like phd version of a psychotherapist.

Dr. Bernard Seif answered

Specializes in Clinical Psychology

Clinical psych: focus more on major mental illness and diagnostic testing. Counseling psychologists focus more on human development and the changes and challenges that accompany this process. There is much overlap. Both require doctorates and post-doc training and exams. Counselors are usually master-prepared professionals and may focus on marriage and family, substance abuse, etc. See APA website.
