I have had a sore throat for over two weeks now, i went to the doctor after about 4 days of it and had a strep test but it was negative. should it take this long to get over it?

Get rechecked.: If this were a viral infection, it should be gone by now. If this were just allergies, you would likely not have a sore throat. Being this has lasted for two weeks now, it could be a bacterial infection, just not strep. You need to get evaluated again.
