A member asked:

My lactic acid and pyruvic acid are in the normal range (1.8 and 0.046 respectively), but is my l:p ratio elevated?

L:P ratio > 30 suggests inherited disorders of the respiratory chain complex or tricarboxylic acid cycle disorders. An elevated lactate and a L:P ratio less < 25 suggests a defect in pyruvate metabolism. Are you being worked up for congenital lactic acidosis?
