After Miscarriage: Serum human chorionic gonadotropin levels typically return to normal within 2 to 4 weeks after a completed abortion. Normal menstrual cycles may be expected to resume within 4-6 weeks. Abnormal menstrual cycles after this period may be an indication for further testing such as an hCG level, or checking for retained products of conception.
