A member asked:

How common is it to have vomiting and diarrhea to occur simultaneously? i am very afraid of having it come out of both ends at the same time

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Common: Vomiting and diarrhea go together, and many patients have both. Often, symptoms go from top to bottom, with vomiting starting first, and then the diarrhea. When vomiting starts, a person can go into "gastroenteritis mode" and stop eating for a day, but drink small amounts (depends on one's age and weight) of Pedialyte or other rehydrating fluid each hour. One's primary care doctor can help.
