Gluten free: It is hard enough to follow a gluten free diet and would be intolerable if you avoid all grains (corn, rice, gluten-free oat). Since there are many causes for alopecia areata, it is impossible to predict that your hair will regrow or not. But if a gluten free diet does help you, I t would be wonderful. Theoretically nutritional deficiency may lead to hair loss but probably not alopecia areata.

Not specifically: You need to spend more time learning about the gluten free life. Many "old world" grains do not contain gluten and including them in your diet would not aggravate your condition. There are some potential items that can mimic the gluten effect and specific testing is available through specialty labs. Artificial colors, like red #40 can aggravate even those without gluten sensitivity.Read labels.
