Herpes - HSV1 and 2: These two viruses prefer certain areas of the body. HSV1 prefers the mouth area, while HSV2 prefers the genital tract. If someone has HSV1, chances are it's in the mouth region. I would ask if they ever had a 'cold sore' or 'fever blister' -that would cinch the area where virus could come from WITHOUT a rash. That's called viral shedding BTW when you can't see a rash, but that person is infectious

Probably not: Most HSV1 without symptoms is oral. Even if genital, sexual transmission is uncommon; and just genital touching almost never transmits HSV, either HSV1 or HSV2. So nothing to worry about.
