A member asked:

I'm on antibiotics for an ear infection in my right ear and sinus infection. now my left ear hurts so bad when i swallow. is it another infection?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not another infction: The antibiotics you are taking for the current infection will treat all the bacteria (both ears). The pain is from pressure in the eustachian tube, behind the ear drum. This is from swelling in your sinuses due to the current infection. Don't intentionally "pop" your ears - this can cause the eardrum to rupture. Take some phenylephrine (sudafed) to reduce the congestion and open the tubes.
